Miss Universe 1958 Luz Marina Zuluaga, full bosomed and long-legged, doesn’t speak any English.

Through an interpreter she answered questions, which developed these astounding facts:
- She had been kissed only once, by TV actor Hugh O’Brien, and that was for a publicity stunt – no more than a brush on the cheek, she said.
- She has never been on a date in her life, not even with a chaperon.
- She’s an excellent cook and housekeeper.
- This was her first beauty contest.
- She is an excellent equestrian and tennis player and is a college student.
- Miss Zuluaga, one of five children, comes from an upper class South American family.

- Miss Brazil Adalgisa Colombo. She has film, TV and modelling offers.
- Miss Netherlands Corine Rottschäfer. She is already a top European model, has some movie bids but plans to continue modelling.
- Miss Poland Alicja Bobrowska. She has many offers for personal appearances, TV and movies.
- Miss Sweden Birgitta Gardman. She is going to Hawaii, having won a trip to
Honolulu as part of her awards in Sweden.
- Miss Belgium Liliane Taelemans. She will stay at Miss California’s home for a while.
- Miss Norway Greta Andersen. She will be a house guest of Mona Stornes who was Miss Norway in 1954 and now is a radio interviewer.

Miss Costa Rica Eugenia Valverde was disqualified because she was underage. Rules say all contestants must be 18 by July 1st. Miss Costa Rica won't be 18 until October 8th. She'll participate with other girls in all events except the actual judging.

Luz Marina Zuluoga Miss Universe 1958 from Colombia (right), took out social security that allows her to work in the territory of the United States, and ensures the payment of an old-age pension when she reaches 62 years of age. In the photo, Luz Marina appears with Miss Denmark Evy Norlund (left), who also took out the American social security policy.

This photo was published on 31st July, six days after the final night. Luz Marina Zuluoga Miss Universe 1958 (right) is very similar to Miss Brazil Adalgisa Colombo (left), both have almost the same measurements. But the Colombian is prettier and a little darker. The dean of Long Beach judges, Vincent Protta, said that "Miss Brazil lost by the mouth" and Alberto Vargas, the creator of the pin-ups, said that Luz Marina was "the most beautiful face that has ever competed in the contest that identifies the most perfect woman in the Universe.”

Miss Greece, Marily Callimopoulou, is the candidate who would represent 100 percent the beauty of the Brazilian brunette: with her matte skin and black hair, she is truly beautiful and has the same measurements as Marta Rocha who represented Brazil in Miss Universe 1954 and was the first runner-up.

This photo was published on 22nd July, three days before the final night. This was a dream come true today for Miss Sweden, Birgitta Gardman in the Miss universe 1958 contest last week. She marked on a television interview that she would like to meet Gregory Peck. The dream came true at United Artists studio in Hollywood when Peck tokk time off from his acting chores in his new picture “pork Chop Hill” to meet Miss Sweden. The movie is a story of the fighting during the Korean conflict.

Miss Denmark, Evy Norlund (evidently descended from the Vikings judging by the last name); receives some instructions from a real Western cowboy, Hugh O'Brian, on how to get up early with a cob gun, the kind that made Pancho Villa famous. O'Brian acts in cowboy movies. She is, as seen in the photo, one of the competitors for the title of Miss Universe 1958, precisely the one sent by Denmark. The contestants were visiting the Hollywood studios.

Pretty Miss Denmark, Evy Norlund; in the current Miss Universe beauty pageant at Long Beach, California, is a willing pupil of actor Hugh O’Brian in his demonstration of the proper stance with a Wild West “shooting iron.” It all took place during the visit of Miss Universe 1958 contestants at the 20th Century-Fox studios in Hollywood. Competition in the contest began Tuesday night and Miss Universe will be named tomorrow night.

Miss Costa Rica, Eugenia Valverde, was disqualified because one of the rules of the contest specifies that candidates must have been born on July 19th, 1940 or before. All this was due to what happened last year with the current Miss Universe, Miss Peru Gladys Zender, who was 17 years and 7 months old at that time. Oscar Meinhardt, director of the Miss Universe pageant, said: “I blame the sponsors in Costa Rica entirely” because they did not demand any age-related requirements. “She, because of her honesty, is a credit to her country.” She will be able to participate in all activities as an honored guest, but not in the preliminaries.

Miss Costa Rica is 17 years old and did not know about the minimum age of 18. She will not turn 18 until next October.

David Schine, 30, one of the most publicised Private in the Army, obtained a licence yesterday to marry Miss Universe 1955, Miss Sweden, Hillevi Rombin. She is 24 years old, living in New York in hopes of trying her luck in moving pictures. She was offered a part in “The Benny Goodman Story” immediately after her beauty contest triumph.

Mr. Schine now is back in civilian life. He has been president and general manager of the Schine hotel chain since 1950.

Close to tears, Leona Gage, disqualified as Miss U.S.A. (right) in Miss Universe 1957 because she was married and she had two sons, kisses successor, Miss Utah, Charlotte Sheffield (left), but she was ruled ineligible to compete in the final night because she wasn’t in the preliminaries.

Charlotte Sheffield participated as Miss U.S.A. in Miss World 1957, but she didn't qualify.

She is a statuesque blond who makes her living by taking care of people’s feet, gave some special attention to her own today. The 18-year-old, a pedicurist by profession, was the tallest and heaviest of the 23 girls in the competition. She stands 5 feet 7 ¾ inches, weighs 136 ¼ pounds and is contoured 37-22¾-37. She was rewarded with a sports car and 500 pounds ($1,400).
The rest of the finalists are Miss Denmark, Lillian Madsen (2nd); Miss South Africa, Adele Kruger (3rd); Miss Tunisia, Jacqueline Tapia (4th); Miss Japan, Muneko Yorifuji (5th); Miss France, Claude Inès Navarro (6th) and Miss Israel, Sara Elimor (7th).
